Water Rates
How does EMWC set its water rates? We closely follow some 43 different expenditure categories during the course of the year. These include costs of everything from salaries to water tests, from insurance to postage. The largest expense is the cost of the water we buy from the city of Bloomington and distribute to you.
Each Fall the Treasurer establishes a budget for the following year which must be approved by the Board of Directors. He uses expenses from the past year, known price changes in insurance and other expenditures, published trends in procurement costs, and good guesses and provides his most realistic picture of projected expenses. The Board of Directors then spends considerable time reviewing and challenging the Treasurer's proposals before arriving at a final number. We strive to keep the rates as low as possible while maintaining a high level of customer service and ensuring that our system is safe and reliable, now and into the future.
